Free Family Quiz Game About the Ocean

Hi, if your kids are bored play this fun ocean quiz with them. It’ll keep them busy for a few minutes and keep them sharp.

For the quiz you will need:

  • Some people to play, in fact, as many or as few as you like.
  • Some pencils and pieces of paper.
  • And a quiz master….
  • On the paper get the participants to write the numbers 1- 10 with and extra line below marked ‘p’ for points. Something like this will do:

This is how the quiz works:

The quiz master asks each question. If anyone knows the answer straight away, they write it down and mark 10 points in the line below and put their pencil down.

If anyone hasn’t got it, read out the the first letter of the answer. They write down the answer and 5 points in the line below and put the pencil down.

If anyone still hasn’t got it, read out the clue provided. Write down the answer, if they get it and 3 points in the line below then put the pencil down.

But if anyone still needs help, read out the A, B, C, D multiple choice answers. If they get it this time write down the answer and 1 point in the line below.

Read out the answer and see who was right, and how many points they got.

Here’s an example quiz question you can use it as a warm up or a bonus question or even a tie breaker:

Example Quiz Question:

For 10 points: What type of fish was Nemo in the Disney classic ‘Finding Nemo’?
For 5 points: The first letter of the fish’s name is C.
For 3 points: You find them in the circus, and they’re supposed to be funny.
And for 1 point: The multiple choice is…
A. Gnome Fish
B. Cray Fish
C. Goby
D. Clown Fish

Of Course, the answer is a Clown Fish, but I bet you knew that anyway. Now it’s on with the real quiz.

We’ll Start with an easy quiz question…

Quiz Question 1:

For 10 points: What kind of shark is Jaws?
For 5 points: The 1st letters are G and W.
For 3 points: You get a clue. It’s also a colour.
And for 1 point: The multiple choice is…
A. A Hammerhead Shark
B. A Bull Shark
C. A Blue Shark
D. A Great White Shark

The answer is… A Great White Shark or a White Pointer!

Quiz Question 2:

For 10 points: What is the biggest fish in the world?
For 5 points: The 1st letters are W and S.
For 3 points: You get a clue. It’s named after a huge ocean mammal.
And for 1 point: The multiple choice is…
A. Dolphin Shark
B. Whale Shark
C. Wobbegong Shark
D. Swordfish

The answer is… A Whale Shark!

Fun Fact: They may be huge, in fact, up to 10 metres long, but they only eat tiny krill in the world’s tropical oceans.

For 10 points: What is the biggest type of whale?
For 5 points: The 1st letters are B and W.
For 3 points: You get a clue. It’s the biggest creature that has ever lived as far as we know.
And for 1 point: The multiple choice is…
A. Blue Whale
B. Sperm Whale
C. Beluga Whale
D. Humpback Whale

The answer is… The Blue Whale!

Fun fact: The colossal blue whale can grow up to 25 metres in length and live up to 110 years.

For 10 points: Which Ocean is the world’s biggest?
For 5 points: The 1st letter of its name is P
For 3 points: You get a clue. It rhymes with terrific
And for 1 point: The multiple choice is…
A. Arctic
B. Indian
C. Pacific
D. Atlantic

The answer is… The Pacific Ocean!

The Pacific Ocean is huge at 168,000,000 km2. That’s so big, it covers a third of the entire planet and all the land would fit easily inside it.

C. Orca Whale
D. Blue Whale

The answer is… An Orca Whale

The answer is… Shark!

Fun fact: There are approximately 440 species of shark all over the world’s oceans. Though there are occasional attacks on humans, these are a case of mistaken identity with as few as 82 attacks on average per year. Whereas, Humans kill an estimated 100 million sharks a year! With many species being endangered.

D. Submarine

The answer is… A Submarine!

For 10 points: How many oceans are there in the world?

For 3 points: You get a clue. You could count them on one hand.
And for 1 point: The multiple choice is…

B. Four
C. Five
D. Seven

The answer is… Five! Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, Pacific and Southern.

Don’t be confused there are seas too. A sea is completely surrounded by land whereas an ocean is not.

  • 75-100 This quiz is too easy for one as clever as you. I’ll have to make a harder one next time.
  • 50-74 Hey well done on the quiz, you’re sure to be a genius!
  • 25-49 That was a tough quiz but well done to you. I’m sure you learned a lot and next time you’ll ace it.
  • 0–24 This quiz is probably for older kids but I’m sure you’ll be able to do it soon. Well done for trying.
