Poetry for Kids: Fantasy Series

Poetry-for-Kids-the-Fantasy-Series-Unicorn-Barry-Brunswick

For my latest works of poetry for kids I am writing a fantasy series. With each poem being about another creature of fantasy. So, if it’s poetry for kids you’re after, check out the second in the series about a unicorn.

The Unicorn
By Barry S. Brunswick

We ran free down the golden valley,
By the mountains to the south.
A herd so strong and mighty,
Far too numerous to count.

A creature of majestic silver.
Into magic we were born.
With a mane of flowing hair,
And a sparkling twisted horn.

The shadows burst from out the woods,
With arrow tips and raging hell.
To spill our blood and take our horns,
To steal the magic for themselves.

So many fell while I took flight,
With my children and my wife.
They chased us for many days
And yearned to take our lives.

But we got away, we did evade,
Right to the crystal stream.
Where once again we lived a peaceful life.
In a place so lush and green.

Here we’ll stay as our numbers grow,
Far from the reach of men.
We have no need for human greed,
We’ll be unicorns again.

Come back soon for the next in the fantasy series of poetry for kids and other short stories.
