For my latest works of poetry for kids, I am writing a fantasy series, with each poem being about another creature of fantasy. So, if it’s poetry for kids you’re after, check out the first in the series about a troll.
By Barry S. Brunswick
I sit huddled beneath my bridge
Black blood pours from my wound.
The knight he hit me with his spear tip
That leads me to my doom.
I writhe around in pain, in fear
I roll round in this mud.
I wish to have just one more day
To do with, what I love.
I collected gold from the kingdom grand
I took all that I could steal.
I took the princess away that night
And ran for the rolling hills.
But the king stood tall and shouted loud
For a hero bold and brave.
To take his horse, his spear and sword
A monster there to slay.
The princess with her smile so sweet
My heart fluttered out of control.
So much more than human meat
My blackened heart she stole.
The knight found me in the deepest dark
Dwelling in my cave.
I stared upon my human prize
The beauty of her face.
I raised my hands to crush him down
He wouldn’t take my dear.
I chased him long, I chased him far
Until I met his spear.
Now my love has gone my life is done
My blood and heart are spilled.
I knew happiness for a moment or two
But soon I will be killed.
Goodbye my clubbing hands, stomping feet
My land of dust and bone.
I must make the most of this cold night,
Come morrow I’ll be nowt but stone.
Come back soon for the next in the fantasy series of poetry for kids. But next week it’s a free short story about rats and cockroaches!
