Poetry for Kids: Fantasy Series

Poetry-for-Kids-Fantasy-Series-The-Giant-by-Barry-Brunswick

For my latest works of poetry for kids, I am writing a fantasy series. With each poem being about another creature of fantasy. So, if it’s poetry for kids you’re after, check out the third in the series about a giant.

The Giant
By Barry S. Brunswick

The grey mountain is where I dwell.
The land just below the ice.
With a bitter scowl, my tale to tell.
My rage that burns, cold jealous eyes.

I tower high, my face is cracked.
My body old and scarred.
My massive weight has hunched my back.
My feet like leather tough and hard.

Below me is a kingdom green.
A land I long to roam.
With valleys deep and crystal streams.
A place to be free, a place called home.

I was banished to live among the rock,
By a wizard old and wise.
Eating humans never to stop.
The hunger growled, a village in sight.

So I rumbled down the greenest hill,
Leaving booming thunder in my wake.
With a thirst for blood and taste of flesh.
The earth beneath me began to shake.

The wizard stepped out into my path.
I could squish him like an ant.
Aloft he held his magic staff.
The power, forking from his hands.

He uttered words so magical, I shall not repeat.
And that was when, I was tamed,
No hunger, no more human meat.
A retched curse, a life of pain.

Now I’m shunned, by my own kind.
Bloodthirsty violent savages.
I’m doomed to walk this mountain high,
Eating slimy cabbages.

Come back soon for the next in the fantasy series of poetry for kids about three mischievous fairies.
