Hey friend!
This week I bring big news! The four-and half-year project which is my 2-part series, The Entitles Series, is over and today it’s finally out in the wild! YAY! If you love, YA sci-fi fantasy books then this is the series for you.
The series consists of Entities Part 1: Entities Connected and Entities Part 2: Entities Divided. I’ll tell you a little bit about them if such things interest you.
Entities Part 1: Entities Connected
I’ll share a brief synopsis but first I’d like to tell you a bit about the actual process. I think it was late 2020 I first had the idea for this book and started writing it in 2021. This was a weird one for me because I wrote it with huge gaps of months in between sessions, while I worked on other things. I don’t know why it happened that way, but it did. I’ve learned to go with the flow when that happens. You can’t rush or force creativity.
I set myself a challenge, I wanted this book to be completely and utterly crazy. I wanted every page to be a surprise or a shock, making it almost impossible to guess what would happen. Frankly, this made it the hardest book I’ve ever written. And indeed, it was, but intentionally so. I wanted to test my skills as a storyteller and writer. I set myself tasks like characters that have no form, that were pure energy. It was challenging to express a character that has no face or body. I think I pulled it off, but really, you’ll have to be the judge of that.
I wanted Entities Connected to be different than anything else I’d written. It is my first foray into the world of sci-fi, but it won’t be my last. It’s an all-action style with an internal edge that’ll will keep you guessing right until the end.
Heading into the home straight I had two possible endings, one would have left this book as a stand-alone, the other turned it into a 2-part series. You can probably guess which one I went for. All I’ll say about the end is I cannot possibly quote what my editor said in shock and excitement when she read it. That’s far too sweary to share here but a good sign nevertheless! I think it’s safe to say I chose the right ending. But again, I’ll let you be the judge of that.
All up I’m super proud of this book. It was hard work. It took a long time and now it’s here to share with the world.
Synopsis
Warrior to warrior, being to being, entity to entity, the vastness of the cosmos is meaningless when everything’s connected.
A strange force awakens inside Isha, sending her spiralling on wild journeys where she sees through the eyes of other beings. With experiences that are beyond comprehension, they make her question reality and drive her to the brink of madness. She may be a normal fourteen-year-old, but she is unwillingly thrust into a cosmic battle between good and evil. Her goal, to save the alien child and prevent a wider inter-stellar war.
Liam, a university student in a mundane existence, is suddenly manipulated by a mysterious entity within. It invades his very being, dwelling dark inside him. It tortures him into doing its terrible bidding. It tasks him with a mission that defies his morality—to find and kill that very same seemingly innocent child.
Hosted by powerful beings, a thrilling race across alien worlds begins. One fearsome warrior must face another, each with opposing goals, but for the sake of all beings in the galaxy, will the child live or die?
Everything’s connected in ways you can’t even imagine.
Entities Part 2: Entities Divided
With Entities Divided it was very much the opposite of Connected, in as afar as it took me only 8 months to complete. This story is very different from the first. I would say the first is character driven, whereas this is more plot driven. That is not to say the characters aren’t awesome (of course they are!) but a lot of Connected looks inward, in Divided we look outward.
Having been someone fascinated by all things space and aliens forever, I loved this little project. I went for more of an exo-political look at it as many species of alien are at war or on the brink of it. The world I created opens out into more of a space opera style story.
Though it is set in the present, I also took the opportunity to take a look into Earth’s mysterious and forgotten past. Being someone that loves all these things, and study them for entertainment mostly, it was cool to use all that knowledge in this story. I never research for my stories but I research in general and use that in my stories.
Entities Divided gave me a chance to explore some themes that I feel are important to introduce to a younger audience. I don’t want to give spoilers but I’m sure you’ll recognise what I’m talking about as you journey through the pages.
I’m pleased with the Entities Series. I’m proud and hope the world will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Synopsis
Extra-terrestrial species are locked in conflict, two innocent humans are thrust into a cosmic war, and the battlefield is Earth.
Will Penny ever be happy again? Her world has crumbled and all she can see ahead of her is darkness. Her life has spiralled out of control and what she seeks is answers.
Nineteen-year-old Alex has a mysterious entity within that manipulates him. He too is seeking answers, but ones to very different questions. Somehow, he is drawn to Penny and a seemingly chance encounter takes place. Could it be that their destinies are bound together?
Upon the horizon, a war is coming. Extra-terrestrial species are set to clash, but they will do battle on Earth. The Reptilians want our planet for their own and will stop at nothing to meet their terrible ends. Opportunity knocks as the Mercenaries have acquired a powerful generator, the core, and have a buyer. The Reptilians mean to hijack the deal and use its power to achieve their goals, but it’s not only them who have eyes on this prize. A fearsome clone army want the core for themselves, and they will leave devastation and death in their wake.
Penny and Alex must join forces with the Alien Alliance and the Mercenaries to stop a galaxy-wide war before it begins. The fate of all humans on Earth relies upon them. Can the seemingly puny force of the Alliance, possibly defeat the coming storm, for the sake of every soul in the galaxy?
When the connections are severed, division is all that remains.
